Rowan Coleman author of The Memory Book once tweeted to Gemma Vincent “It is a truth universally acknowledged that writers want houses they cannot afford”. As a writer, I heartily agreed. You can’t live in Barbados, drive pass million dollar villas and not want a house you cannot afford – whether or not you’re a writer.
For months I’ve passed a vacant lot in Westmoreland, St James with perfectly manicured lawns and wished I had the money to buy it.
It’s opposite the Royal Westmoreland estate with its private residential villas, 18-hole golf course, spa and luxurious amenities. Wayne and Colleen Rooney own one of said villas and they are often seen in the newspapers and gossip mags photographed with their beautiful children enjoying life here in the sun. I have it on the authority of the dailymail.co.uk that the Rooney clan makes multiple visits to Barbados each year.
On the vacant lot which I mentioned above there is a lookout tower, set up no doubt by the real estate agent to entice you to climb up and see the views that could be yours from the second story or your future home. The lookout is open to anyone and comes equipped with two chairs from which you can sit and dream of the home that one day could be yours. Today for the first time I indulged my curiosity and stopped, climbed and I dreamed. Below is the scenery I imagined viewing from my bedroom and roof deck.
So if you have the odd million dollars or so of loose change lying around and you want to vacation like Wayne and Coleen Rooney, give Island Villas a call at 422 3333. Tell them that you’re interested in the Calijanda Estate and that the beardedfigtree.com sent you to look at the view and dream of the house that could be yours. Just remember to invite me over for your house warming party in the future.
